Olneyville SHINES
On April 25, 2008, LOPCO Contracting helped lead the charge as over 375 people descended upon the Woonasquatucket River Bike Path to assist in Olneyville SHINES, a community cleanup and betterment service event. LOPCO's employees were instrumental in leading groups to the accomplishment of such projects as building a fence around a community garden, graffiti removal from various areas of the bike path itself, and general area cleanup along the bike path. In addition to his leadership and company's participation on the day of the actual event, LOPCO Contracting's Proprietor Tom Lopatosky was part of the leadership team that organized the event and made the preparations beforehand to ensure its success.
On April 26, 2009, LOPCO Contracting helped build upon the success of the 2008 event. Over 600 people turned out to help continue the beautification of the areas around the Bike Path. Murals were painted and hung on the windows of an abandoned mill building, an in-water cleanup took place, graffiti was removed, the exterior of the non-profit HIVE building was painted, an additional gateway to Riverside Park was constructed, the woodwork around the playground in Riverside Park was re-stained, and tons of trash was hauled away. All of this was part of the huge effort to continue to improve the bike path. Once again LOPCO was proud to be a driving force behind this event and looks forward to continue to do so in the future.
