Spring is finally here, which means it’s time for some Spring cleaning. Depending on how you are wired, you may be either relishing the chance to air out your home and get rid of the grime that has somehow accumulated over the past several months or you may be dreading the extra housework. In either case, getting your home ready for the warmer Spring and Summer weather can make it feel like a completely new space in all the right ways; because of this it is definitely something that we highly recommend.
If you are at a loss as to how to get started with your Spring cleaning, here are a few tips that should hopefully make the process a bit easier…
Start With Your Exterior
The best place to begin your Spring cleaning is on the outside of your home. It’s the part of your home that’s exposed to the elements and it has almost certainly taken a beating from some type of harsh winter weather. Take a walk around the outside of your home and see if there is any damage that needs to be repaired. This may include damaged gutters, peeling paint, dented or rotted siding, and anything else that might catch your eye. You should be able to clean off some of the grime that has accumulated with a power washer, but more extensive damage may mean seeking out professional painting and carpentry services.
Check Your HVAC System
You might not need to turn on your AC right now, but you should still get it ready for the hot summer months. Check your air filters and change them if necessary. Clear your main outdoor AC unit of debris and get an HVAC service person into your home to make sure that everything is in good working order.
Start Cleaning Inside
Once your Home’s exterior and your HVAC system have been addressed, it’s time for some interior spring cleaning. Wash all of your windows on the inside and outside, dust off ceiling fans, and clean out your fireplace (if applicable). This is also a great time to take a look at your walls to see where they need to be Cleaned and/or Re-painted. Cleaning your walls usually involves a soft sponge and very little soap and water, but walls with a glossy paint job or latex paint can be wiped down with a mild degreaser if they’re really bad. If you want to repaint your walls, the Spring is a great time to do so. Many would agree that Spring is absolutely an EXCITING time of year; a little bit of Spring cleaning injected into it (although perhaps not the most fun thing you may do) can often make it an even more enjoyable season!!
